Fanshawe College celebrates Fall and the beginning of the study break with a student-focused festival. According to the organizer, Christine Siroyt-Vandelaar, this event’s purpose is for students to go, relax and have some fun during the semester.
“This is our second annual fall festival,” said Siroyt-Vandelaar. “Last year, we had a successful outcome, so this year, we have tried implementing as many services as possible with different activities for students to learn in a fun environment and with food.”
Siroyt-Vandelaar said this event is necessary because students have settled into classes and know what they might need help with. She added that they have various great prizes available.
“All student service areas made a scarecrow, and students can pick which one they liked the best,” said Siroyt-Vandelaar. “They can also join the scavenger hunt and answer essential questions about campus services.”
She said they also have gift cards and certificates available for the winners of those prizes.
“We have a $100 Fanshawe College Gift Certificate, a $25 Oasis Gift certificate, four runner-up prizes, $25 gift cards and $10 Oasis gift certificates,” said Siroyt-Vandelaar. “This event is just a nice and relaxing way of getting to know the access to the services they want or need.”
Business program student Pawan Kaur said she did not know students had so much support from the college.
“That is the perfect formula for an international student like me to become the best,” said Kaur. “This is a good college with a lot of student support. ”
Mobile application development program student Mani Soni said, “This event is an eye-opener” for her.
“ I come from a place where learning opportunities are limited. Everybody is so open and willing to help you learn; it blows my mind,” Soni said.
Siroyt-Vandelaar stated that she needed to be there to guide and answer any questions or inquiries. She knows students can get overwhelmed with all the information thrown at them every day.
“We had all of these services available at orientation, but people were busy having lots of fun and meeting new friends that maybe did even think about the college services,” said Siroyt-Vandelaar.
