Sometimes the seemingly-simplest of tasks can confound us. For me, one of these is taking the shrink wrap off a new CD. OK, it sounds simple, right? But I stumble with it, trying to get a fingernail under the wrap or searching for a bit of sagging cellophane I can attack with my teeth – and in the end I have a paper cut, a broken filling, and an as-yet-unopened new CD. But despite this frustration, today on Routes & Branches & Beyond I’m playing some music that is relatively new to this world. Just as long as I can get all of them opened…!
I have intimate fiddles, Glasgow session aerobic workouts, celtic-Acadian kitchen parties, punchy jigs & soaring reels, the offspring of Quebec/Newfoundland intermingling, and the brilliant verve of new traditional material. From bands such as Elise Boeur & Adam Iredale-Gray, Ímar, Les Fireflies, Dallahan, Port-Aux-Poutines, and La Déferlance. Stop whatever you’re trying to open, and join me.
