This is the time of year when many radio shows are taking some vacation. Here at Routes & Branches & Beyond, I get a generous three weeks off, so this show is what the big stations call an “encore” presentation. It’s a show from about this time of the summer, 3 years ago, back during the joys of the Covid crisis. I’ll be back with regular programming around Labour Day. Enjoy!
So today on “Routes & Branches & Beyond,” we have “Covid Cancellations, volume 3” – another show with artists that I was going to see live this summer, but events overtook us all. A set of joy and melancholy, hope and uncertainty, simplicity and complexity – kind of like life itself. I have yearning jigs, begging ballands, hot young bands and cool old bands, uplifting reels about a person’s downfall, the beauty of North Atlantic cities… in the summer…, Appalachian blame-laying songs, fiddle/throat singing duets, chamber trad, Quebecois polyrhythms, bouncy Morris tunes, a new setting of an camping song, and a domestic song that can melt butter at 50 metres. Join me.
