Fanshawe College Woodstock/oxford regional campus is all set to start a new program called ” Women Of Steel” which targets wormn and women-identifying groups. this program has been launched in partnership with the Canadian welding bureau which aims to introduce women to skill trades such as welding. it is evident from the past few years that skill trades like welding have lost their importance. One of the main reasons behind decreasing number of jobs is aging which resulted in diminishing trained individuals.
This program aims to bring back the importance of such trades and encourage women to learn more about skill trades. according to Lisa Wells, manager of continuing education and contract training,” We have received a grant from CWB and this is a fully practical program with four weeks of placement provided to students to kick start their career.” This welding program is a short-term program starting from June to September.
“participants in this program will be able to earn up to 6 CWB qualifications. there will be training under various processes so they are prepared for the next step in their careers which could be post-secondary or employment,” says Lisa Wells manager of continuing education and contract training.
This program starts on 26 June 2023. according to Lisa Wells, they have received a great response from people but, they are taking only twelve participants for this year.
