Volkswagen has announced that a batter manufacturing facility will be built in St. Thomas, Ontario.
Europe’s largest automaker, announced that its subsidiary PowerCo will establish the electric vehicle (EV) plant.

Earlier today, Volkswagen announced that it has selected St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, as the location to build the company’s first overseas battery cell plant. Today’s news is a major vote of confidence in Canada and Ontario, and in our shared work to position the country and the province as a global leader on the electric vehicle supply chain
Last month, the province hinted a major announcement in the automotive field after a law was passed to be a 1,500-acre “mega-site” in southwestern Ontario.
The announcement comes after St. Thomas’ efforts to acquire a manufacturing plant east of Highbury Avenue and south of Ron McNeil Line.
The plant is expected to be built by 2026 and production is planned to start by 2027.
