Fanshawe College’s library has officially launched the We Believe Survivors book collection to the public. A collaboration between sexual violence and Fanshawe Library services.
“There are a full collection of books that are related to survivor’s experiences, healing, trauma, and there is a special focus on the intersections of violence,” says Leah Marshall Sexual Violence Prevention Advisor
“Readers can expect to hear from a lot of authors of color, queer, non-binary, and many more and students are welcome to come down at any point and read.”
Marshall believes these books will give students an alternative way to cope with their issues and a new path to finding healing.
“Sexual violence is something that is not always talked about so openly, and there are a lot of myths and stigma with it as well,” she says “We want Fanshawe students to know that we believe survivors and that everyone’s path to healing looks different.”
Marshall also adds that there are multiple ways for those to find peace and healing and that these books will be a great contribution.
“Some people may not want to go to counseling or may choose not to seek professional support, so they now have the option to come and take out a book on their own and do some of that healing in a way that is best for them,” she concluded
Marshall strongly encourages those impacted by this violence, in any shape or form to reach out to her so that they can get the proper assistance.
There will be one hard copy of each book available in the library and students can also access the entire book collection digitally through the QR code.
