Last night, the London Knights hosted their annual teddy bear toss game in support of Ronald McDonald house. Fanshawe student Logan Laforme-Workman was at the game in support of his sister. “I know what it’s like to have a younger sibling with a disability so I’m happy to donate what I can.” After the first Knights goal was scored, fans had an opportunity to clutter ice with thousands of teddy bears. Each teddy bear cost five dollars, with all proceeds going towards the Ronald McDonald house.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Logan told me. Logan is not a big hockey fan and is still relatively new to London, but acknowledges that this is a night that he won’t soon forget. “To see all of the teddy bears raining on the ice was pretty surreal. I don’t really watch hockey, but if all games are like this then I might have to start becoming a Knights fan.” Logan said jokingly. Unfortunately, the Knights would end up losing the game 5-3 to the Oshawa Generals.
After the game, I had the chance to speak to one of the Ronald McDonald house organizers about the success of this event. “This was a really fun event. It’s one of my favourite days of the year. Seeing our community come together to show support for the less fortunate. Making new friends, seeing old friends, and watching some hockey.”
