Students are looking to help out families this holiday season. On December 2nd, they set up multiple booths selling sweet treats and other baked goods. All of the proceedings are going towards toys that the students will be handing out at the Boys and Girls Club. “It might be their first Christmas present or something that they would never expect to get because of their financial situation,” Fanshawe student Kaya Marionski said.
Inflation in Canada is currently just under seven percent according to rate inflation. Prices on products have increased due to this rate. “To give back to those kids and put a smile on their faces. That little gift goes a long way for them,” Ethan Reid said. The students mentioned that their goal is to help 100 kids in need. They also had two teams walking the hallways with baskets of pastries collecting donations. “ 25 cents or a few dollars to donate would be helpful for the cause,” Reid said.
The remote group mentioned that they were estimating they raised around $1100 in donations. One of the main organizers, Eduardo Henriquez mentioned that going over their goal was the hope as they want to help out as many children as possible this holiday season. “I know there are kids out there who need it and that’s why I’m willing to help,” Josh Archer said. All of the students that volunteered will be handing out the toys at the Boys and Girls Club in London on Dec. 17.
