Banting House welcomed The Canada Walk Of Fame to celebrate the four founders of insulin last night which saw more than hundreds of supports, volunteers and family of the inductees show up to celebrate the induction of Frederick Banting, Charles Best, John Macloud and Bertram Collip.
Among the many volunteers was Cathy Sartor, a 25 year now retired history teacher and current tour guide at Banting.
“Its the people we meet. We have lots of student volunteers and accomplished students among others to celebrate the life of the founders of insulin.”
Sartor says talking about some of the volunteers and supports that were in attendance of the ceremony.
Sartor gets emotional talking about what this event means to her on a personal level. “My son was diagnosed 15 years ago so being here to support and see so many others living with diabetes and thriving because of the work that Banting, Best, Macloud and Collip did meant the world to me.”
The ceremony was held in honor of The Canada Walk Of Fame Hometown Stars tour with Damian Warner being honored earlier in the day. The ceremony saw previously mention Warner, Mayor Ed Holder, Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdswell and the grandchildren of Frederick Banting and Charles Best with the grandchildren unveiling the plaque seen on the left.
A rendition of Hallelujah performed by Jordan Hart closed out the ceremony on a cold Monday night.
