Around fifty people gathered at the London Public Library Masonville branch for the Green in the City Launch. Climate change has affected the variety of food we eat. The 4th annual launch event brought multiple environmental organizations to talk more about urban agriculture. A few head organizers took the stage to discuss a few ways Londoners can start growing food locally.
After the presentations, a free “Green Drinks” networking event brought environmentally related topics for people to connect and learn more about the organizations. On the Move Organics helped by supplying some food and drinks. The company helps deliver high quality local and organic foods to people in London.
Adriana Klassen works for On the Move Organics. She mentioned that when the company first started off, they used to deliver glass jars of food to local residents from bikes. “Given the opportunity to kind of work behind the scenes with some of the developments have just been something that I’ve been really passionate about”. Klassen said.
The City of London and the London Environmental Network have organized this event. This year is also to help raise awareness on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “More climate change impacts will be worse off for Farmers. So, we need to really do something to curb those impacts now”. Director of operators from London Environmental Network Leah Derikx said.
Green in the City launch is helping to explore a variety of sustainability topics. It is a place to meet neighbors and learn more about local initiatives. Next theme on the agenda this month is learning about Zero Waste and reducing your day-to-day waste at home.
