Fanshawe College’s Hindu community celebrates Diwali in Merlin Field. This was the first in-person celebration since 2019.
Diwali is an Indian festival in celebration of the coming New Year. Candles are usually lit and fireworks are set off to kick off the holiday. Taking place around the end of October, this year it started on October 24th.
For safety reasons, the Fanshawe students could not light the fireworks and candles. The events organizer Zarna Mistri say hopefully they can have the opportunity to light them in next years celebration.
Despite the set back, students still managed to have a great time. With music provided by DJ Suni and free henna sessions, the celebration was a big success.
“It’s New Year’s Eve, so after Diwali, we have Indian New Year. It’s the biggest festival in India, everybody celebrates it, and everyone loves it.” Zarna Mistri, Fanshawe student
