The sight of a road sweeper and city crews cleaning up the last of the wreckage were the only signs of an early morning crash in London’s east end on Wednesday that sent four people to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries according to police.
At 12:20 a.m. police say that two vehicles collided at the intersection of Highbury and Hamilton, forcing the area to be closed off for several hours while London police’s traffic management unit investigated.
One was a white four-door car that looked to be nearly torn in half by the force of the condition and the other was a van according to city crew members.
John Keeney, who was involved with the cleanup, says that the van was carrying a large amount of gas that spilled across the site of the crash.
“I’ve never seen so much gas all over the place in all my life,” says Keeney. “There was gas all the way up the pole and leaking into the sewer line which we had to block off.”
Lanes reopened just before 9 a.m. and police say the investigation is ongoing.
