The dire possibility of a sixth wave was confirmed earlier this week by health officials in London, Ont. and Middlesex County.
In a media briefing hosted by the Middlesex-London Health Unit, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Alex Summers said the risk of COVID-19 is ‘very high’ in the community.
“The amount of COVID that we are seeing right now is higher than at any other time in this pandemic aside from peeks of January 2022,” warned Summers. “We are in many ways heading into what is likely our sixth wave as a community.”
With many public health measures scaling back, Summers is recommending residents keep smaller social circles and continue masking throughout the spring season.
“We will get to a point in time where we are not limiting our activities because of COVID-19. But we are still in a time where that is a way to protect yourself and limit your risk.”
Summers is also urging locals to stay up to date on their COVID-19 vaccinations. To help with that effort, White Oaks Mall has reopened their walk-in vaccination clinic as of Thursday. The clinic will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., and is set up next to Tim Hortons near the food court.
The clinic is open to anyone five years of age or older requiring first, second or booster doses.
