The Fanshawe Men’s Indoor Soccer team is primed and ready for the playoff rounds of the OCAA Provincial Championships. Both the Men’s and Women’s indoor soccer teams qualified for the OCAA Provincial Championships with stellar showings at the Regional Championships. Those took place just a few weeks ago. Now, in the first round of games, the Men’s ended up moving on to the elimination round. Unfortunately, the Women’s team was unable to do the same.
The Women’s team had a rough day going 1-2 in their 3 games. The first loss was a tough game against a very good Lakehead University team that defeated Fanshawe 2-0. Then, in their next game of the day, the Falcons lost 3-0 to the St. Clair Saints. The Saints are yet to lose a single game this entire season so far. Finally, there was something to be proud of as the Fanshawe Women’s team pulled out a win in their final game of the day against Laurier. The final score for that game was 1-0.
The Men’s team also played 3 games and proved they belong to be in the conversation as a potential finalist. The first game was a humbling experience for the Falcons as they lost their first game. The game was against Humber and they lost 5-0. Humber is an incredibly good team and will be an opponent they will likely see again very soon. Humber also has not lost a game yet this season. Then, the next game was against the St. Clair Saints. The Falcons pulled out a 1-0 victory in this game to keep their playoff hopes alive. Finally, the Falcons needed a win to qualify and move on. It was win or go home, and the Falcons delivered. Fanshawe defeated St. Lawrence with the final score being 6-1.
The Fanshawe Men’s team now moves on to face George Brown today in the OCAA Semi-Final match. A win will land them in the finals where they will fight for the championship. The game gets started at 11:00 am and takes place at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughn.
