Team Canada has won a Gold medal in the 2022 Beijing Olympics! What an achievement, all the athletes should be very proud of themselves.
Team Canada started the game off very strong with Claire Thompson scoring in the first 8 minutes of the game assisted by Marie-Phillip Poulin. Another goal was scored in the period with 5 minutes left in the first by Claire-Phillip Poulin. There was one other goal scored by Team Canada in the first but was unfortunately called off for an offside.
Heading into the second period Canada once again came out of the gates strong gaining control in the period. Marie-Phillip Poulin scored her 2nd of the night assisted by Brianne Jenner and Sarah Nurse at the 9 minute mark of the period. Right after Canada took this 3-0 lead, team USA turned things around playing a lot harder in the period with Hilary Knight scoring an unassisted short handed goal, bringing Canada’s lead back down to 2.
The third period was very tight. the game was very back and fourth. Both teams were very close in game play and no goals were scored for the period. With just over 3 minutes left in the third team USA pulled their goalie to get that extra attacker. Team Canada was given a 2 minute minor for tripping with 1:25 left in the game. USA still had the extra attacker out playing 6 on 4 hockey. Team USA did in fact score on this powerplay attempt bringing the game to a one goal lead for Canada with 12 seconds left in the game. Team Canada held them off for those few seconds are were crowned Gold medal Champions.
