Have you ever gotten a random highly paid online job form to fill out, you press on a link or answer a phone call, and boom, your identity, bank account information, photos and contacts are stolen? It sucks but we may have some tips to avoid getting scammed for you.
Ben Jones, A criminal defence lawyer has the best tips to avoid scammers:
- Never share your bank account information with anyone whom you may not know very well, or never met face to face. Also, avoid sending money transfers to strangers.
- Never trust any random online job. Some of them are scammers and they put high salary to grab your attention so you can sign up with them and put in your bank account information. Make sure the company is known and do some research before giving out any personal information or clicking on any links.
- Just because an email looks professional does not mean that it is. Scammers have a way of making everything look perfect so they can earn your trust, they could fake a caller ID as well.
- Do not open any links sent to you in text messages by random numbers, usually it is a scam.
- Dating websites, social media, long distance friendships/relationships, never trust anyone you have never met with your personal information.
