With the new restrictions, gyms are not only hurting people physically but mentally as well. People use the gym as an escape root and a way of therapy and it has just been taken away from them. Gyms are very therapeutic and and a good source for mental health.
With that being said it is also hurting people who are now at a loss of a job. People who were working at jobs thought everything was fine and had no clue their job would be taken from them like nothing. These workers are now suffering with income when the gym is a very safe place as you need to show proof of vaccination and masks are mandatory, while unvaccinated people can still go to a mall.
Another big thing being factored in is the lack of physical activity happening in peoples every day lives. Athletes may not be up to peak performance for their athletic season, regular civilians may start getting over weight and cops and other highly performance demanding jobs may start to lack physically.
New years resolutions may be going down the drain as well. Most people set goals for the new year mainly consisting of healthy living and working out and now they will need to find new ways to do these resolutions. A lot of people are feeling a lack of motivation, upset they need to change their goals and some are starting to give up.
Some private gyms are still running and its unfair to the regular “gym bro” who is doing all they can to get into a gym and they are getting shut down by these private owners who would be taking the fine for these regulars to just come in. Physio and other place like that were still up and running for appointments but within this past week they have shut down and do very rare appointments with the people in need.
Health care workers and nurses shared they don’t believe closing gyms is going to contain the spread of covid at all. They believe almost everybody will contract the new strand due to how easily it’s able to spread. In their medical opinion businesses should reopen, especially gyms due to the impact physical activity has on Canadians physical and mental health.
Another big issue is having to deal with the prices of gym equipment. Most people are unable to purchase these items as they are ridiculously priced. Recently weights have been selling for almost $4 a pound and for your average college athlete they need roughly 400 pounds for the workouts their coaches have assigned for them.
