Stratford’s Callie McCullough has been nominated for a Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) award. Her album, After Midnight, has been nominated for Alternative Country Album of the Year.
“I wrote it in my hometown with Scotty Kipfer,” says McCullough. “I was snowed in. I called Scotty and told him to bring some wine, we’re gonna write. We drank a lot of red wine and we watched the movie, Midnight in Paris, and the song was born.”
After Midnight has had great success since its release. It won two 2021 Country Music of Ontario (CMAO) awards for “Rising Star” and “Songwriters of the Year”.
“I love the record. I think we made something that is different and beautiful. I’m just happy that someone is hearing it.”
McCullough also has a new single out called, “Three Quarter Time”. It’s a traditional country/roots ballad that reflects country legends from the past. She wrote the song with Kipfer and Ryan Sorestad. Featured on the song are members of the bands “Union Station” and “The Time Jumpers”.
“‘Three Quarter Time’ is really the story of this record and my years in Nashville. Every lyric in this song is something that actually happened to me. This song is about the journey of musicians grinding it out in Nashville and it’s my stone-cold love for sad songs. It’s me in a nutshell.”
McCullough adds that she’s excited to be back at the CCMAs in London and with a nomination.
The CCMAs will take place Monday, November 29, beginning at 8 p.m. It can be streamed from the Global TV app or Prime Video.
