“This is our first year with it actually being named the Hope Banquet,” says Nicole Case from Mission Services of London.
On Thursday, Nov. 25, Mission Services of London will present their annual Hope Banquet, and new to this year, a Silent Auction.
The proceeds from this event will be used to supply clothing, hygiene items and more to families in need. Donations will also be used to provide adults and children access to the Mission Store’s Emergency Voucher Program and Warm Hands – Warm Hearts Outreach Program.
The Emergency Voucher Program provides those in need with items like sturdy footwear, warm winter clothes, clean clothes and much more. While the Warm Hands – Warm Hearts Outreach Program supplies children with warm clothing across 30 schools in the London area from November to February.
This year, the newly titled Hope Banquet will be held virtually, with tickets being sold online.
“We thought that we could take some of the flexibility of doing an online event and really try to make it a fun opportunity for people to hear a great keynote speaker,” says Case.
The keynote speaker this year is Liz Murray. Having experienced homelessness at age 15, Murray transformed her life from “street smarts to classroom triumphs,” winning a scholarship to Harvard after finishing high school in two years.
“She is just a truly amazing person,” says Case. “I am so excited that guests at our banquet will get to hear from her.”
The evening will also display live music by local artist Noelle Frances. The option for a three-course meal provided by RBC Place London is also available for curbside pickup with a purchased ticket to the event.
“We’re really trying to bring the banquet experience but also give you a little bit of more flexibility so you can stay in, you can wear pajamas, you can wear your evening gown, whatever works for you,” says Case.
She says the amount of community support Mission Services of London has seen fills her with a great sense of gratitude. Adding that even the smallest donation really makes a difference.
