London newcomers day is a day for people to gather and share their experiences with living in Canada, as well as discussing and showing newcomers what starting a new life in Canada is all about
October 21 is the London Newcomers day, where experts discuss what living, working and studying in London is all about. Due to the fact that the Canadian government has always provided shelter and help for newcomers and immigrants who are looking for a new life in Canada, help centres such as Cross Cultural learner centre work as a team in order to provide newcomers with all the services they may need.
Cross Cultural learner centre is a help centre for all newcomers and immigrants that are seeking help in order to be able to understand and adapt to the new community they will be living in. The centre was founded in 1960, and has been helping new comers since then.
Maria Franco is the marketing and communications manager at Cross Cultural Learning centre. In an interview with Maria, she talked about the services the centre provides for newcomers and immigrants in order to help them find the right path, get on track and settle down. “Providing them with temporary housing.. we also provide them with an orientation with life in Canada.” Maria said. ” Provide them with basic life support like navigating or basic community services.”
Maria also said that the team helps them settle down and helps supply them with anything they need. “We really get them settled, we answer any questions they may have about the life in Canada.”
Maria said that the centre provides them with community connection program where they help newcomers socialize and make new connections. “Through our community connection program we provide them with the opportunity to socialize, a big part of moving in and being successful in a community is socialization and making those connections.” Maria said
Maria added that the centre provides a program for newcomers called “client support services” where they help newcomers with settling down and providing language learning for them. “we give them access to community services…we may connect them with our newcomer clinic and provide them with local support.” Maria said.
With the celebration of London New Comers Day, we must remember that life for newcomers who are immigrating from their home countries could be hard since they try to adapt to a new life, but Cross Cultural Learning centre makes it easier for them by providing them with plenty of services.
