History was made in London today as the GO Train made the round trip to Toronto. The train left around 5:20 am on Oct. 18, 2021, returning at 8:30 pm the same day.
The weekday train leaves London at 5:20 am, arriving at Union Station in Toronto at 9:13 am. The train home leaves at 4:19 pm and gets back to London around 8:17 pm.
The trip may be a lengthy one at four hours long, but a passenger onboard enjoyed the ride.
“It goes through a nice area from Kitchener. There are some nice valleys and you can see the farm fields into the city,” he says.
The train ride is a cheaper alternative to the VIA Rail option by about $25. It is up to passengers to decide if they want a cheaper ride for a longer trip. After the train leaves London, it stops in St. Mary’s and Stratford.
Right now, tickets are only being sold online.
“They go to some stations that the VIA Rail doesn’t go to and it’s easily accessible. You won’t hurt your wallet too much.”
This route from London to Toronto is part of a two-year pilot project.
As passengers returned home from Toronto, the conductor passed out roses to commemorate the first trip.
