After clinching the pennant in emphatic fashion, the London Majors find themselves in a match up against the Brantford Red Sox in the second round of the Jack and Lynne Dominico Cup. The Majors have been a force to be reckoned with this season with high scoring games, and amazing displays of skill on the field. But with it being the postseason, all of that is forgotten. Everyone’s focus is making it to the IBL championship in which the Majors may face either the Barrie Baycats or the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Majors pitcher Robert Doyle knows that his team is the best team in the league, but that does not mean it will be a walk in the park. “Brantford is a very scrappy team, you know, they’ll find any way possible to win, they’ll steal home. They’ve done it, you know, a couple of times now, they’ll do whatever they have to do to get by and win. So right now we just need to, you know, lock in, we just need to play pretty much almost perfect baseball, you know, make the minimal errors and you know how we’ve been hitting and put up a bunch of runs. But our team is good, like it’s been a good year for us and hopefully we just stay positive and stay hot and continue throughout the playoffs.” Doyle replied after asking what was the plan for the second round.
With this being the season coming back from Covid shutdowns, it was a pleasant surprise for players to have fans back in the stadium in time for the playoffs. “Honestly, it was unexpected. I really thought the first bit of the season was going to be you know, maybe zero fans maybe the odd like, you know, family member if that. But coming back and have an up to I think was about 3000 fans just, you know, it’s pretty much just a normal night at Labatt Park and that just changes the whole ballgame. You know, having that many fans around and the atmosphere just makes it so much more intense and just the adrenaline kicks up and it’s just a whole new ballgame.” Doyle said when asked about fans being back.
The first game of the second round is set for tonight at 7:35pm and the team is looking for fans to be out in abundance, as they are excited to give them some good playoff baseball.
