The video game industry has grown significantly over the past decade, and exploded in popularity during the pandemic. With more people playing video games, the industry now has a higher demand for various professions in the field.
Big Blue Bubble, a London based game design company has seen a greater need for employees since the start of the pandemic. Beverly Probst is the HR Director with the company and explains her recent experience in the hiring process.
“The pandemic has definitely increased demand for those in the field. I’ve been very busy recruiting for us filling positions as well. We have new projects which are currently in development stages, so we’re wanting to create more games to get out into the market, and we have our current products with exciting new content that we deliver every month to our players. So yes, this greater interest has definitely increased demand.”
So many industries have suffered as a result of COVID-19. The video game industry on the other hand has prospered allowing friends and family to stay connected in an era where face-to-face interactions are few and far between.
“Gaming really brings people together, and I know that sounds super cliché, but it’s really true. If you form relationships that are based on a common passion for video games, it won’t end when the lockdowns are eased. If anything it will continue on.” said Probst.
The video game industry has quietly become the largest entertainment industry in the world with no end to its growth in sight, and more jobs in the field becoming available daily.
