A London man has been charged yesterday after a stolen vehicle was located by its owner travelling through the downtown core.
On Wednesday morning, police say a 2012 Ford Focus was parked in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant located on Oxford Street East. Later in the afternoon, police say a man entered the vehicle, found the keys that were inside the vehicle, and proceeded to then leave the parking lot in the car.
One of the owners of the car was driving in a work vehicle, when he saw the Ford Focus drive westbound on Oxford Street at Talbot Street, and contacted the other driver. The other driver advised that she didn’t give anyone permission to drive the vehicle, and contacted police to report the stolen vehicle.
Officers observed the vehicle in the area of Sanatorium Road and Riverside Drive. Officers tried to stop the vehicle at at Commissioners Road West and Reynolds Road. The driver of the stolen vehicle tried to drive around police, but struck the front of a police vehicle. The stolen vehicle was then struck to the curb and was stopped.
The police vehicle sustained approximately $15,000 in damages as a result of the collision. No one sustained any injuries.
20 year old Patrick Kelly, from London is now being charged with:
- Theft of motor vehicle
- Dangerous operation
- Fail to stop for police
The accused is to appear in a London court on August 25, 2020
