The Victoria Day long weekend is fast approaching. With parks beginning to open up again the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority has released information on new rules for there parks including no camping. They have outlined rules for the Fanshawe, Pittock and Wildwood Conservation areas.
As of May 11th Conservation reserves were able to open for day use only. Athough these parks are all open to the public there are restrictions in place.
UTRCA Conservation Areas Manager Jennifer Howley says “With the provincial Covid-19 Emergency Order in place, we cannot offer camping or boating over the long weekend.” Reservoirs will be closed to all watercraft in order to help enforce the no boating policy.
Camping and boating arent the only things that wont be allowed. Additionally campfires, fireworks and the use of alcohol and marijuana will also not be permitted. Although all UTRCA offices and buildings are closed staff will be on sight to enforce these rules.
Even with all the new rules in place Howley says “We continue to welcome people to our conservation areas for hiking, biking and enjoying nature with no entry fee.” Although all are welcome parking is limited and the UTRCA asks that visits are kept short and physical distancing requirements are followed.
These rules also apply at the following smaller day use conservation areas.
- Cade Tract
- Embro conservation area
- Harmony conservation area
- Harrington conservation area
- Shakespeare conservation area
