Fanshawe College has allowed Turtle Concepts to host an event for indigenous high school students all across London.
“I’ve been waiting to come here for weeks” was said by many students from all around London coming together as a community to experience this event.
Turtle concepts is an indigenous and non- indigenous motivational group that travels the world. They strive to create self-esteem and full knowledge of confidence. This Group is hosted by Dave Jones, he is known for inspiring people with his Funny and upbeat delivery.
They invite guest speakers from all over with different work experiences like models, designers, and accounts to speak about their stories. Many of these guests’ speakers are indigenous people that have a good story to inspire people. Many of them had to work extremely hard and had to push through the stereotypes that people have put on indigenous people for years.
This was to show indigenous students that they can strive to be who they want to be in the future no matter the circumstances are.
Fanshawe indigenous students also explained the services that Fanshawe College has for indigenous students. Fanshawe is one of few colleges that have services for the indigenous students giving them counseling, help groups, and other services for them to go to as well.
Fanshawe College
has its own first nation’s center and other great programs and events for students here to come experience. To make new friends and find a bond with others over their culture.
“When I think of Fanshawe I think of community, Fanshawe is what I think of when it comes to people supporting our culture” was explained by a student from Beal High school when he thinks of Fanshawe college and their culture.
Turtle concepts being at the school inviting the high school students was just one way to get indigenous students out of the reserves to come together. To make new friends and as a community to celebrate and appreciate their culture with each other.
The students came out of this event with new friends, heartfelt stories, motivational tips and a quick overview of what Fanshawe college has in store for them.
