Effective June 19th, Deputy Chief Steve Williams will be London’s next Chief of Police.
An announcement this morning saw members of the London Police Services Board introduce Williams as the next Chief.
He will be taking over the role from Chief John Pare, who will be retiring.
Williams a 27-year member of the London Police, showed a lot of emotion during his speech.
He says he’s excited for his new position, but expects it to be a busy road ahead.
“We have contract negotiations, it’s a budget year, and there’s a search by the board for a new leadership team”
Williams says more technology will be driven out into the field.
“We have a lot of technology at our disposal that we are going to push out to the front lines”
He wants all officers to have the proper equipment required for any task.
“It’s really about providing our officers with tools to be more preventative in what they do in the field”
Williams has served in many positions such as Patrol Operations, Major Crime and Professional Standards.
In 2010, Williams received the Award of Merit from the Ontario Homicide Investigators Association.
