Religion among millennials has seemingly lost its place. In the mid 80s gospel preaching was on the rise and the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was one of the fastest growing. Now this church is looking at growth rates in senior members. This is in stark contrast to what statisticians are calling “nones” or no religious affiliation, which has become the fastest growing group in theology. Despite this some youth are still very active in their churches. Mormon missionaries have been some of the most active gospel preachers and their ranks are primarily composed of youth.
youth like Claude Ernest and Jacob Stevens, who give up at least a year to preach their beliefs to the public. The two young men have come overseas to work in Canada as missionaries. in the time that the two have been here they have visited towns and cities across Ontario and have met individuals of all walks of life.
In Toronto the pair had a moving experience when they met a man who was mentally struggling, in their conversation Stevens said to him;
‘we know you are a son of god and that our heavenly father wants you to feels joy in this life’
Stevens said the man then began to cry with joy and that the whole experience felt extremely spiritual.
It’s this intensely emotional work that motivates the young preachers. While not everyone may agree with their view of the world one thing is certain, we would all be a little worse off without individuals like Ernest and Stevens.
