The cold temperatures have finally arrived, which means the young boys and girls are spending hours and hours on their back yard rinks. All of the moms and dads hard worked has finally paid off because the rink is officially frozen.
It’s thanks to them that the rink is even the backyard in the first place. From the purchase of the supplies to the late nights in the cold flooding it, and the constant battle of keeping the snow off of it, it is no easy task.
Whether you are a die hard hockey fan or just learning to skate, getting out on a pond, a lake, a trail or a back yard rink will definitely be a highlight of your winter.
Just ask Kaden Bukala, he spends hours on his rink every single night. “I was so happy when my dad told me he was making a rink this winter, I knew it would make my game so much better.”
With the slow start to winter, the finalization of rinks were put on hold. “I was really worried I was never going to get to use it. My dad and brother were out there so much but it was just so warm it wasn’t freezing.”
We have now had some -30 degree weather London so there is no need to worry for Kaden and others, because their rink is definitely frozen.
Keep your eyes peeled to the weather channel this week as temperatures are expected to rise, so there may be some disappointed hockey players watching their rinks turn to slush.
Next time you’re thinking about a winter activity, lace up your skates and enjoy one of Canadas most cultural activities.
