The city of London hosted a consultation meeting with Londoners regarding Wonderland Road. The meeting was held at the Civic Garden Complex. During the meeting residence were able to voice their opinions on the matter. There will be another meeting today at 4pm on Southdale Road.
There has been a significant amount of traffic along Wonderland Road between Sarnia and Southdale. Discover Wonderland who is hosting the event are an environmental assessment study looking at the need to continue moving a large number of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicle traffic along Wonderland Road.
The thought of adding more lanes to Wonderland Road has caused mixed reviews “It’s the complete range, I think we have many that won’t want what’s being proposed in terms being 6 lanes configuration, but than those that understand and appreciate whats going on.” says Ted Koza a Transportation Design Engineer for the city of London.
There has been mixed feedback and Londoners are being asked to be patient during the process.
The change has cause members of the public to be concerned with the construction of it all. Rick Odegaard who lives in the Wonderland Road area says that the idea of adding more lanes will cause more traffic. ” I am a believer of if you build it they will come, so if we make this road bigger it will attract more traffic. We need to keep the road as is and need to synchronize the traffic lights and to possibly create on both sides a high occupancy vehicle lane for buses.”
The city is planning another meeting with members of the community and will hold house information sessions: Wednesday, Jan. 30 and Thursday, Jan 31, 2019.
