As more details become available about the 10% cut for Ontario’s education, OPSEU President of Local 110, Darryl Bedford says colleges and universities are expected to deal with the shortfall making harder since other colleges in the province were already struggling with funding.

These changes are not only harmful for the college, but for the Fanshawe student union that collects fees. /
“Fees will be optional; of course there will be students who choose to opt out and that will harm the very good services students have voted for.”
The OPSEU faculty union has expressed their support to student union. Fanshawe Student Union offers activities for students to do on campus such as, Donut Cheat, Pastries with the Presidents, free movie nights, Ballywood night, and free breakfast every Wednesdays until supply last.

Fanshawe’s revenue will be lowered by $5.2 million. Despite of the cut, the college says there will be not workforce reduction since Fanshawe has agreed to hire a total of 20 net new full-time faculty positions over 3 years./

“Hopefully we can put pressure on the government to change their minds on this. We dont think what they announced is good for students, so we are hoping that members of parliament will actually listen and question what their leadership has put forward,” adds OPSEU president.
