Right to Play Canada is a national organization that raises funds and volunteers to provide children with a proper childhood. That includes their “right to play” and all of the dedicated members spend hours a week making sure underprivileged kids get a healthy dosage of activity and someone they can look up to.
Jack Soeder is the president of Right to Play Western and says they strive for the same goals.
“Every year we make a donation to right to play Canada and it is the money we collect from all of the events we throw throughout the year” – Jack Soeder
The most recent event was acro-yoga, a fun combination of acrobatics and yoga taught by local instructor Kate Mercier. Participants were charged $5 at the door and were told to partner up in order to practice the fun moves.
The class ran for an hour and dozens of students showed up to support the cause.
Soeder says that the local London children really give a face to the cause and that is something he has experienced first hand.
Right to Play Western frequently volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club of London. Soeder says that “we are always told to play games with the kids that teach a life lesson and one time we were playing a game called protector dodgeball. After the game I asked a young boy who he had protecting him in his life to which he replied by pointing at his younger sister and saying “we only have each other.”
Soeder says it is moments like those that remind the team of why they are helping the community.
Right to Play Western will be throwing events throughout the rest of the year and to find out what they are make sure to check the USC website as well as facebook events near you.
