The news broke earlier that, the London Knights had made a trade for Kevin Hancock of the Owen-Sound Attack for Knights Defensemen Andrew Perrott and Sudbury’s 3rd round pick of the 2019 priority selection draft. You know what that means… the Knights want more than an OHL title. They want the ultimate prize of Canadian Junior Hockey… The Memorial Cup.
It wasn’t long ago that 2 members on the current Knights roster got to feel what it was like to be on top of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). You guessed it… Alex Formenton and Evan Bouchard are the only two on the Knights roster that have their names on the Memorial Cup. They accomplished that feature alongside Max Domi, Matthew Tkachuk, Mitch Marner, and so many more.
Dale Hunter has the most wins as a head coach in the OHL; he loves to win and so does General Manager Mark Hunter. Well they want back in! After a sweep to the Owen-Sound Attack in last year’s short lived playoff run for the Knights, Mark and Dale needed to make adjustments to their roster. It worked out, the Knights find themselves in first place in the Western Conference and are ranked 4th in the CHL.
Now it was time for the Knights to add some final pieces to their puzzle to make them a top contender for the OHL title but, also to book their ticket to another Memorial Cup. Kevin Hancock has been a monster in his final season in the OHL… 62 points in 37 games. The Knights know how to score goals, and they know how to defend. The London Knights have plenty of depth on their blue line to get them to a championship. They also have a depth on the offense but, the scoring depth needed a little push and they got it by acquiring Hancock.
Hancock will make his Knights debut when they take on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in London. He and the Knights will look to keep their foot on the pedal for the remainder of the regular season, and they will look to get back to where they were three years ago… at the TOP.
