With thousands of students enrolled at Fanshawe, not everyone has time to bring their own food, so is there healthy options for students?
With many fast food chains such as Pizza Pizza, Harvey’s, Tim Horton’s, and variety stores loaded with chips, candy and chocolate, are there things that students and staff can eat to stay on the healthier side? Of course there is Subway, and Booster Juice, but even at those locations there are food and drink options that are loaded with sugar, calories, and fat.
Purchasing from these fast food chains, especially if it’s often, can add up to a lot of money out your pocket. Buying a burger with some fries can cost you up to $10 sometimes.
“I would say Fanshawe does have some healthy food options.” Abby, a student at the college said. “It doesn’t help that the options are a little too expensive for a student budget.”
Abby wasn’t the only student that thought that some of the prices throughout the school are up way too high.
“The prices are a little high for some of the food,” Danielle, a student, says.
Something that the college does provide is a farmers market, full of fresh fruit and vegetables. George runs the stand and is happy that students and staff purchase food from his stand for a healthier alternative. Although, he thinks the school does have options that are healthy.
“I think that at Fanshawe College here, I’m one of the good examples,” he says.
Some suggestions by students for additions to the food options were a Pita Pit, and a spot with fresh, homemade food.
