Starbuck’s holiday cups have been a controversial topic over the past few years. Today only, the coffee giant is offering free solid red re-usable cups for customers who order a holiday drink.
Drink options for the holiday line include Peppermint Mocha, Toasted White Chocolate Mocha, Caramel Brulee Latte, Chesnut Praline Latte, Gingerbread Latte, and Egg Nog Latte.
The cups not only help promote Starbuck’s drinks, they also help the environment, by reducing the amount of waste from thrown out cups.
Offered only on Nov. 2, the cup has already sold out in London. Employee for the Wharncliffe and Oxford location, Tony Resendes says that the re-usable cups are extremely popular.
“The red ones that were given away this morning, it’s just a way of promoting the new drinks that we have, and it’s been a great success. We sold out by 8 o’clock this morning and all of London sold out way before that. It’s a good way to create interest and a lot of people enjoy them.”
Avid Starbucks drinker and Western student Claudia Fornier is pleased that cups are enjoyable no matter your religious beliefs.
“They’re holiday themed, they’re not necessarily directed to any certain holiday, like Christmas, Hanuka, Kwanzaa, so they’re versatile.”
Starbucks fan and Western PHD drink student Megan Paler appreciates the timing of the cups.
“I like that they jumped the gun and did it November 1st.”
Customers who receive the reusable cup can also bring it back at any location after 2 p.m. and get 50 cents off their next holiday drink purchase until Jan. 7, 2019.
