Every year, more international students choose Fanshawe college as their pathway to success, being 2018 the year with the highest enrollment for international students.
“We do have our record numbers with more than 5,000 international students from 90 countries here at Fanshawe,” says Sue McKittrick, Communications & Recruitment Coordinator at Fanshawe International Office, “many of our students come from India, China, Korea, Latin America, Africa, and other small countries that people have never heard of.”
In comparison to 2016, the number of international students attending the college then were 2,400. This year the numbers have double up to 2,500 more which means almost 20% of the 28,000 total of students enrolled are international.
“Sometimes we are so popular that more international students want to come and we cant, we don’t have enough room for them in the most popular programs,” says McKittrick.
Sue McKittrick says it is a challenge for the college to accommodate these students in residence, or with temporary Canadian families. Also, placing them in the most competitive programs Fanshawe offer.
“Business is very popular, some of the new programs downtown, hospitality, culinary program and video games design; there aren’t tons of seats,” she adds.
How does Fanshawe gets out there? The college works internationally by sending teams to about 90 countries around the world recruiting students and give them the chance to study their dream career and improve their English skills.
McKittrick believes domestic students should also benefit from these exchanges.
“We have study abroad, so we want our domestic students to go study in other countries and we want international students from other countries to come study here. I think, it benefits everyone to see the world from someone else’s perspective,” says the Communications & Recruitment Coordinator.
